“HOME": A TRIBUTE TO HORSESHOE BAY THEN AND NOW
CANADA DAY PREMIERE

There is a lot to be excited about as West Vancouver changes. Chris Adshead and I are pleased to announce that we have created a music video called “Home: A Tribute to Horseshoe Bay Then and Now” which shows the changing face of our community in the last hundred years. With pictures as early as 1920, you will see older vistas contrasted to current views in the 3-minute, 53-second video. This musical slide show will be premiered on Canada Day at 9:00 am.

WHERE THE MUSIC CAME FROM
The instrumental music for “Home” is an original composition and is itself, a musical collaboration. Not so long ago, local musicians gathered at Hugos restaurant (2013-2017) and performed songs they had written about emotions, what was happening at that time and West Vancouver life. People near and far would come out to experience the culture that came from the live music hub. As Hugos closed, many of those musicians were asked to give performances in the song “Home”. In the video you will hear piano, bass, drums, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, some vocals and even an accordion.

WHERE THE VIDEO CAME FROM
In May of this year, the “Home” music video was released with lyrics. There was demand for a version without words, so audio engineer/musician Terri Breeze put together an instrumental mix. After a call out to community for photographs to use in a music video, local photographic artist Chris Adshead expressed his interest in the project. Chris spent countless hours sifting through stunning photos submitted by friends and neighbours as well as historical photographs from the West Vancouver Archives to tell our Horseshoe Bay story. After much deliberation, Chris and I narrowed down a plethora of excellent photos into the few that best fit the video concept.

Horseshoe Bay has gone through dynamic transformations over the years. With the “Home: Tribute to Horseshoe Bay Then and Now” video we celebrate Canada, Horseshoe Bay and the community minded people who help us embrace life’s changes.
